What is the festival that I’m talking about?

The festival is Ganesha festival.

The deity of wisdom, the deity of obstacle remover, and the deity of progress. Undoubtedly, no other festival has such an appeal, grandness and unifying factor in India.

Millions of Pandals. Sea of people, Sparkling and bustling streets.It’s like the day in the nights for the entire period of celebrations. The gigantic event that is beyond comprehension.

How…How…How is it possible? You must be wondering!!

Before delving deep into the possibility of transformation of India through this festival, let us get to know the history of this grand festival?

During Independence struggle, there had been a ban on public gathering of the people. It had become impossible to gather, discuss and fight against the biggest problem at that time.

What do you think the biggest problem at that time?

It’s British occupation!!        British imperialism was most powerful, feared and ruthless that time.

The gruesome Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the apathy towards Bengal famine which devoured millions and, the displacement and massacre of millions are few examples of that ghastly regime.Still, the dark legacy continues thanks to British.

Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak came up with the public celebration of Ganesha festival in the year 1892 to unite and galvanize Indians against the formidable opponent. The purpose was to ideate to uproot British occupation in India.                                                      

Is the festival still relevant since the biggest problem for which this festival started is no more bothering us?

How can we keep the flame of the purpose for which the festival has been started? Have we progressed so much that we are devoid of any problems as a country?

Let the yardstick not be how beautifully you have decorated but how beautifully you have accommodated people to think about the problems. Let the yardstick not be how many people have visited your pandal but how many problems you have attempted to solve.

Why don’t we utilize the framework given by Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in contemporary times?
