After ThinkingGanesha 2017, where my friend Sanjay Vomkarey shared his insights and made us think about the current state of education. I feel It is the apt time to share my long written view on how we are running after a piece of paper assuming it as real education.
When education only becomes qualification.
Qualification is acquired through examination.
An examination is writing on sheets of paper.
Finally being educated is determined by piece of paper(Certificate)
When a sheet of paper becomes a barometer of judging someone as learned.
It’s not surprising that this attitude forces people to acquire a piece of paper by any means.
Because for them, acquiring piece of paper is to acquire more pieces of paper (Money)
In quest of acquiring a piece of paper, there is a mastery of stealth techniques like copying, acquiring sheets of paper in form of question papers before exams by the parties like institutions and seekers.
These stealth techniques are religiously followed throughout our country but the sophistication varies.
I don’t see them as culprits because they are reacting to the expectation of the society where the barometer of judging a person is through piece of paper(qualifications)
I dream the world where learned is recognized, respected, and rewarded as learned by his wisdom, not by a piece of paper.
The mad rush of acquiring a piece of paper is treading them into the path of corruption.
To get that piece of paper, people are stifling their thinking, forgetting their potential, being in an illusion that they are learned though the fact of the matter is, learning is a continuous process.
The world where there are no exams,
Where there is no peer competition
Where knowledge is shared without restriction,
Where there is an opportunity to choose one’s own curriculum.
Where there is only self-competition and others play a role of motivators and supporters.
Finally, I hope we realize that a piece of paper is merely a piece of paper
Greetings,
I couldn’t really attend the talk by Sanjay Vomkarey sir, I really wanted but couldn’t. I would like to cut it very short when it comes to Sanjay sir that he’s going to make some great radical changes in the realm of Indian pedagogy and how real education system should work.
Feels honoured to be a team along with Sanjay sir.
Good luck Sir.
